What does "total payroll cost" include?
Basic salary + housing allowance + transport allowance + other allowances + employer social-security contribution + end-of-service benefit (EOSB) accrual. This is what a finance team should reserve per employee per month, not just take-home pay.
How is the EOSB accrual calculated?
Standard 1 month of basic salary per year of service, accrued monthly = 8.33% of basic salary. UAE, KSA, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman all follow this benchmark; the cap rules differ but the monthly accrual is the same.
Are allowances mandatory?
No, but housing (typically 25%) and transport (typically 10%) are nearly universal in the Middle East employment contracts and expected by candidates. Egypt and India-based hires use lower allowance percentages.
Why is UAE social contribution so low?
In the UAE only Emirati nationals contribute to GPSSA (12.5% employer + 5% employee). For the majority expat workforce there is no statutory pension contribution, only EOSB.
