Frequently Asked Questions
What is "payment in lieu of notice"?
If either party ends the contract before serving the full notice period, the leaving party owes the other a cash settlement equal to the salary for the unserved days. It compensates the receiving side for the abrupt departure.
Is settlement calculated on basic or gross salary?
Middle East default is the last gross monthly salary (basic + housing + transport + standing allowances). Some employment contracts cap it at basic only — check yours. The calculator defaults to gross.
Can the employer waive notice?
Yes — the employer can release the employee immediately without requiring service or payment. The employee cannot unilaterally waive notice without the employer's consent in writing.
Is gratuity (EOSB) affected?
No. End-of-service benefit is separate from notice-period settlement. Use our country gratuity calculators to compute EOSB; both are paid in the final settlement.
What if the contract sets a longer notice?
Whichever is greater between the statutory minimum and the contractual notice applies. Override the default-days field with the contract figure.
